Mark Tully on: investigating industries

One of the most high profile construction industry stories currently is the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) investigation into bid-rigging activities, with Carillion and Balfour Beatty among over 100 companies that have been accused of breaking the UK competition law.

Threatened with fines of up to 10% of their annual turnover, which stands at £7.5 billion for Balfour Beatty, these organisations will have to defend the allegations or face the serious consequences of being found guilty. Whether or not the maximum fines are imposed, a severe impact will be felt by the whole of the construction industry if the allegations are found to be true.

Similar investigations are also being carried out by the OFT into alleged breach of competition law by a number of recruitment agencies, including Hays, Anders Elite and Eden Brown, who all provide recruitment services to the construction industry...more.

LATEST NEWS: NES celebrates 30 years with iPod giveaway

NES is celebrating 30 years of business by giving away 30 iPods - one a day throughout May - to new candidates.

The company, which has just implemented a new and improved online registration process as part of a total web site overhaul, will be giving away one iPod every day from 1st until 30th May to jobseekers who register online - who will be automatically entered into the draw.

“The iPod has been selected as, like NES, the brand has a global presence and represents the latest technology and innovation within its marketplace,” says Matthew Cody, marketing director at NES. “Jobseekers who do register will find it easier than ever to find their next assignment or permanent position,” he concludes.

NES web site in focus: a look at the Global Candidate Pipeline

NES is a Level 1 accredited adviser with the OISC (Office of Immigration Services Commissioner) and can assess individual circumstances in order to provide advice on the best route to take to gain authorisation to work in the UK. The company also employs multilingual recruiters to assist further with the placement of non-UK applicants.

The Global Candidate Pipeline (GCP) section of the new web sites provides an overview of the ways in which NES is helping to address the skills shortage in the UK through the placement of highly skilled international candidates.

An introduction into the Global Candidate Pipeline service explains they ways in which you can benefit as a jobseeker looking for work in the UK or a client requiring further support in meeting hiring needs.

Case studies illustrate specific instances in which NES has helped to secure the placement of an international candidate. In this section, you can see for yourself how NES is helping to address the skills shortage through its OISC registration and immigration advisory service. An article entitled ‘Working in the UK’ provides further information about seeking employment opportunities for people outside the EU.
